Music City Beauty 9th Anniversary Duo Swatches and Review

Kim of Music City Beauty has just celebrated her 9th Anniversary as a polish maker! I still remember finding the brand, then known as Smokey Mountain Lacquers before Kim's move to Nashville, in my never-ending search for indie holos. I still have my first order receipts in my email inbox - I started out on November 10, 2013 with an order for Forever Classy, a taupe jelly holo and A Walk Through Eden, a forest green shimmer holo. I had to go back again on November 29 for Showstopper, which is the polish I really think of when I reminisce about the beginning of Kim's brand - this was a super-glowy red shimmer holo that was perfectly named. Another huge highlight of my blogging career, and my long time as a customer and blogger of the brand, was getting to work with Kim on Smokey Mountain Lacquers Trick or Treating Under the Stars, which was inspired by my fond memories trick or treating as a kid in Minnesota. It was a black jelly with red/gold multichrome flakes representing fall leaves, and holo microflake for the stars of a clear, crisp Halloween. This was back when these holo microflakes were still kind of a novelty! Anyway, Kim still does customs if you are interested in something like this of your own - she is really good at them. I've rambled old-man style long enough, so let's get to the new duo at hand. These are available through Saturday September 10 for 30% off with code 9YEARS

Music City Beauty 9th Anniversary Duo
Music City Beauty 9 Years is a mantis green shimmer with red-orange-gold-green multichrome iridescent shimmer and a touch of holo shimmer. I wore it in two thin coats, but one careful coat may cover. It had a quick dry time and a slightly thicker formula that needs top coat for smoothness and shine.

Price: $12.50 or $22.95 for the duo

Music City Beauty Enchanted Forest is a deep green with green-purple duochrome shimmer, a splash of holo shimmer, and green reflective particles. I wore it in two thin coats, but one would cover. This had a quick dry time and needs top coat for smoothness and shine. The polish was actually a bit opaque for the reflective particles to show through very vibrantly, so if you wanted a more pronounced effect from those, I would recommend thinning it down a bit. As it is, the effect is subtle but visible in direct sunlight.

Price: $13 or $22.95 for the duo

Now for live swatches!

Congrats, Kim, on nine years! You are one of the original indies I purchased from and and here we both are, nine years later, doing our respective things. It's really fun to look back on all those years and rummage through my old emails and blog posts for past releases. Music City Beauty has a sale going on with code 9YEARS for 30% off to celebrate the anniversary, and also just released a gorgeous fall holo / reflective quad in jewel tones. Have you been shopping from any indie brands for almost a decade?
