Supermoon Lacquer Sailor Guardians Collection Inner Set Swatches and Review

The much anticipated release of the Supermoon Lacquer Sailor Guardians Collection is almost upon us! This Friday, you will see two sets of five polishes come to the store. Today I have the Inner Set to share with you. Overall, this contains the lighter and brighter shades of the collection. Let's have a look!
Supermoon Lacquer Sailor Guardians Collection Inner Set

First of all, let's check out what maker Mardi had to say about the creation of these:

The Sailor Guardians Collection is the fourth full collection and fifth (maybe sixth?) release from The Howling Boutique's Supermoon Lacquer. It features TEN different nail polishes that will be available for purchase in three ways – as a discounted full set (all 10 polishes), as slightly less discounted half sets (inner set of 5 polishes and outer set of 5 polishes), and non-discounted individual polishes.

This collection is inspired by the iconic Japanese anime Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon (also referred to as Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon), which originally debuted in 1991 as an 18-volume shōjo manga series written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi. In 1992, it was adapted into an animated (anime) series that ran until 1997 and includes five seasons, three feature films, three short films, and a TV special. Sailor Moon is one of the most popular manga/anime series in history with the title character being recognized as one of the most important – and popular – female superheroes of all time.

Sailor Moon was the first anime I ever watched and I vividly remember getting blank VHS tapes and setting up our VCR to record it from the TV since it came on while I was still at school. I taught myself how to draw by watching these tapes repeatedly, pausing at certain points in order to try and copy the image on my TV. Sailor Moon is one of my all time favorite fandoms (after My Little Pony, of course) and definitely my absolute favorite anime series.

+ $52.00 (regular) / $47.00 (pre-sale): Includes the colors Aqua Rhapsody, Flame Sniper, Love and Beauty Shock, Oak Evolution, and Rainbow Moon Heartache.

+ The Inner Guardians (or Scouts/Senshi) are Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Venus, and Sailor Jupiter. They are the main five characters of the show, alongside Sailor Moon, and get introduced early on in season one of the anime.

Supermoon Lacquer Aqua Rhapsody is a cobalt blue with scattered holo shimmer, blue and white microflakes, holo microflakes, and holographic microglitter. This covers in two thin coats and dries quickly. As with all of the polishes in this collection, due to the microglitter they dry with a slight bit of texture that smooths out with a single layer of top coat.

Aqua Rhapsody is based on Ami Mizuno aka Sailor Mercury and named after the special ability she gains in Super S (season four). She is very sweet, gentle, loyal, and extremely intelligent with an IQ rumored to be 300 (people with an IQ score of 144 or higher are considered geniuses). Ami has the power to create and manipulate all forms of water, including ice and clouds of mist/fog, and her Sailor Soldier uniform consists of different shades of blue.

Supermoon Lacquer Flame Sniper is a burgundy scattered holo with copper and red microflakes, red-to-copper and purple-to-red duochrome microflakes, iridescent purple microflakes, and copper, red, and violet holo microglitter. This has a two coat formula that is quick drying and needs top coat for shine.

Flame Sniper is based on Rei Hino aka Sailor Mars and named after the special ability she gains in Super S (season four). She is portrayed as very practical and disciplined, quite often seen at the Hikawa Shrine where she is a mako (or ‘shrine maiden’). Rei has the power to create and control fire, and some psychic abilities such as sensing danger and doing fire-readings. The primary colors of her Sailor Soldier uniform are red and purple.

Supermoon Lacquer Love and Beauty Shock is a pumpkin orange scattered holo with copper, gold, and red shimmer and microflakes. I wore this in three thin coats, but two would do. Perfect formula and a lovely, flattering orange!

Love And Beauty Shock is based on Minako Aino aka Sailor Venus / Sailor V and named after the special ability she gains in Super S (season four). She was first introduced in her own manga series, Codename: Sailor V, and was ‘awoken’ by a white cat named Artemis. She is portrayed as athletic, romantic, and resilient, and is always depicted with a large red bow in her hair. Minako (or just ‘Mina’) has powers associated primarily with love and light, and her Sailor Soldier uniform consists of the colors orange, yellow, and navy blue.

Supermoon Lacquer Oak Evolution is an apple green scattered holo with red and green microflakes, green-to-pink duochrome shimmer, and silver, pink, and rose holo microglitter. This is such an amazing and unique shade - great formula that covers in two or three thin coats. This requires top coat to fully smooth.

Oak Evolution is based on Makoto Kino aka Sailor Jupiter and named after the special ability she gains in Super S (season four). She is depicted as a tomboy – strong (both physically and mentally) and independent – who loves to bake/cook. Her ‘trademark’ style consists of wearing pink rose stud earrings and having her hair in a constant ponytail. Makoto (or affectionately ‘Mako-chan’) has powers associated with electricity and plants, while also possessing superhuman strength. The primary colors of her Sailor Soldier uniform are green and pink.

Supermoon Lacquer Rainbow Moon Heartache is a battleship gray scattered holo with blue-to-red multichrome shimmer, gold and silver microflakes, gold and silver holo and iridescent rainbow microglitter, and holo and rainbow microflakes. Great formula, which I wore in three thin coats, though two will do. This has a quick dry formula that needs top coat to be perfectly smooth.

Rainbow Moon Heartache is based on Usagi Tsukino aka Sailor Moon and named after the special ability she gains in S (season three). She is portrayed as a semi-lazy, accident-prone crybaby with an outgoing personality who largely cares about others before herself. A black cat named Luna ‘awakens’ her in the first episode of the anime, granting her abilities associated with the moon, love, and light. She gains additional powers as she grows stronger and her appearance changes several times throughout the series to reflect this. Her various Sailor Soldier uniforms consist mostly of the colors blue, pink, red, white, and yellow.

Having spent part of my childhood in Japan, I love the inspiration! I feel like Mardi has channeled the anime perfectly and has put so much effort into this collection. If you love bright sparkles and Sailor Moon, you can't go wrong here! I will be back soon with the Outer Set, so stay tuned for more.
